Savala is a village ( Estonian küla ) in Ida-Viru County ( East Wierland ) in northeast Estonia . Since October 2013 it has been in the rural community of Lüganuse ( Lüganuse vald ). Until its formation it was in the rural community of Maidla ( Maidla vald ).

Description and history

The place was first mentioned in 1241 in the Liber Census Daniae .

The village has 218 inhabitants (as of 2000). It is the capital of the Maidla rural community. The municipal administration is located in the former schoolhouse of Savala, built in 1790.

Savala is located on the Purtse River ( Purtse jõgi ).
