Maidla was a rural community ( Maidla vald ) in Ida-Viru County in northeast Estonia . The area has been part of the Lüganuse rural community since 2013 .
Description and history
Their area was 332.3 km². In 2010 the community had 755 inhabitants. The administrative center of the rural community was the village of Savala .
Maidla was first mentioned as Maydalae in 1241 in the Liber Census Daniae . The rural community has existed since 1917. It was expanded again in 1938 as part of the Estonian regional reform. Local self-government was abolished during the Soviet occupation of Estonia. It was restored on April 9, 1992 after Estonian independence was regained.
In the south of the wooded municipal area is the Muraka nature reserve, a swamp and moorland north of the large Lake Peipus .
coat of arms
The municipal coat of arms is based on the original family coat of arms of the noble Baltic German family Maydell . It shows three silver-colored fish in a stream. Maidel (genitive maidla ) refers to the carp fish gudgeon in Estonian . The river Purtse , which crosses the municipality, corresponds to a blue oblique left bar on the coat of arms . The yellow background of the coat of arms stands for the fertile fields.
Villages
In addition to the main town Savala the rural municipality included the villages Aidu , Aidu-Liiva , Aidu-Nõmme , Aidu-Sooküla , Aruküla , Arupäälse , Aruvälja , Hirmuse , Koolma , Kulja , Lipu , Lümatu , Maidla , Mehide , Oandu , Ojamaa , Piilse , Rebu , Rääsa , Salaküla , Sirtsi , Soonurme , Tarumaa , Uniküla , Veneoja and Virunurme .
Maidla Manor
The manor in the village of Maidla is worth seeing . The farm was first occupied in 1465. The property belonged to the noble Maydell family until 1499 . The Maydell family name probably goes back to the place name Maidla.
The original mansion was destroyed in the Northern War . The present mansion was built by the German Baltic Georg Ludwig von Wrangell from 1765–1767 by the Tallinn architect Johann Paul Dührschmidt in the Baroque style . The Maidla School has been located here since 1925. The house is now also used for tourism services.
