Rebu is a village ( Estonian küla ) in Ida-Viru County ( East Wierland ) in northeast Estonia . Since October 2013 it has been in the rural community of Lüganuse ( Lüganuse vald ). Until its formation it was in the rural community of Maidla ( Maidla vald ).

Description and history

The village has 7 inhabitants (as of 2000).

Rebu was first mentioned in a document in 1551. Historians have proven that there was an ancient iron melt in Rebu. The locals obtained the ore they needed from the nearby moors. The names of streams and forests in the area also indicate iron processing. They contain the term raud ( Estonian for "iron").

Archaeologists have uncovered an underground cemetery near the Sompa farm. It was used from the 13th to the 17th centuries. The facility is under state protection of cultural property.
