Moldova is a village ( Estonian küla ) in the rural municipality of Lüganuse ( Luganuse vald ). It is located in Ida-Viru County ( East Wierland ) in northeast Estonia .

Description and history

The village has 23 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2012). It is located a few meters from the Gulf of Finland .

Since 2009 there have been contacts between the village of Moldova and the Republic of Moldova , which is called Republica Moldova in the state language . The name of the Estonian village probably comes from the surname Moldau , which is common there.

West of Moldova is the small Ahermu waterfall ( Ahermu juga ) near the farm of the same name. The 1.5 m high waterfall is one of the few sandstone waterfalls that formed in Estonia during the Cambrian .
