The naked arbor ( Sawbwa resplendens ), also known as glow-head , is a small carp fish that is endemic to Inle Lake in Burma . The generic name was derived from a local name, the type epithet comes from Latin ("re" = against; "splendere" = shine).
features
The nude arbor got its name because it is completely scaly. It has a moderately elongated, laterally flattened body and reaches a length of 3.5 to 4 cm. Males are steel blue in color, the belly is silvery white. The underside of the snout and the tips of the caudal fin prawns are colored red. A large number of small black dots make the back appear darker, usually greenish. Otherwise, the fins of both sexes are colorless. Females are olive green to brass in color with a silvery belly and a black spot on the anus.
The mouth of the fish is small and terminal, while the upper jaw protrudes and is protractile (extendable). There are no barbels . There are four teeth on each of the pharynx , which are arranged in a row. A sideline is only faintly indicated above the abdominal cavity. The dorsal and anal fins are short, the caudal fin forked. The second fin ray of the dorsal fin is strong and toothed in the middle part of its rear edge (6 to 12 teeth).
- Fin formula : dorsal 2–3 / 7, anal 2/5, pectoral 7, ventral 7.
Way of life
The fish are very common throughout Inle Lake and the adjacent swamps. They occur in large swarms both in clear open water and on the banks in peaty, often almost putrid water between dense vegetation. The females are ready to spawn in February and March. The eggs are one millimeter in diameter and yellowish. The larvae hatch after 3 to 4 days and swim free after a total of 5 to 6 days.
