Scaevola
Scaevola is the cognomen of a branch of the ancient Roman plebeian gens Mucia ; the name means left-hand and comes from the folk hero Gaius Mucius Scaevola , who according to legend in 508 BC. BC sacrificed his right hand in the failed attempt to murder the Etruscan king Lars Porsenna .
Its most important representatives include the legendary folk hero Quintus Mucius Scaevola , allegedly consul in 220 BC. BC, praetor in the year 215 BC BC, on whose two sons the two in the 2nd and 1st centuries BC Major branches of the family:
