William of Mandelée (Scandaleon)

Wilhelm von Mandelée or Wilhelm von Scandaleon ( French Guillaume de la Mandelée ; † before 1280) was lord of Scandaleon in the Kingdom of Jerusalem by marriage .

He was the son of Jakob von Mandelée from his first marriage, a grandson of the Norman crusader Wilhelm von Mandelée and a great-grandson of Count Joscelin III. from Edessa .

Before 1263 he married Agnes, the daughter and heiress of Peter, Lord of Scandaleon. By their right he became master of the castle and dominion of Scandaleon, south of Tire .

With Agnes von Scandaleon he had four children:

  • Joscelin from Mandelée
  • Guido von Mandelée, Teutonic Knight
  • Peter von Mandelée, Teutonic Knight
  • Alice von Mandelée, ∞ I) Wilhelm Barlais , ∞ II) Agne von Bethsan ( House of Béthune )

After his death in April 1280, his widow sold the rule of Scandaleon to the Teutonic Order , which two of his sons joined as knights.
