Scania Series 2 was a truck series produced by the Swedish manufacturer Scania from 1980 . It replaced the Series 1 . In 1989 it was replaced by the Series 3. The Series 2 trucks were the first to have the steering wheel tilted backwards, which resulted in better ergonomics and, above all, more comfort when driving. Today this is a common construction method in truck construction.
Model history
The series started at the beginning of 1980 as a T semitrailer tractor . T for Torpedo is Scania's name for the long- nosed cab. She was of Giorgetto Giugiaro from that of Italdesign designed Frontlenker been designed -Fahrerhaus the series second
The other models of the Series 2 followed later with the following cabs:
- G short lowered cab
- P short or long lowered cab
- R high cabin long or short with double bed
- T Long or long hood cab with double bed
The cabins were mounted on 3 different chassis :
- M: for distribution and regional transport
- H: High rigidity, long-haul chassis
- E: Double frame rails for heavy haulage and construction vehicles
Engine range
- DS8 (Scania 82): 8-liter 6-cylinder diesel engine with turbocharger and 154 kW (210 PS)
- DS11 (Scania 112): 11-liter 6-cylinder turbo diesel with 224 kW (305 hp)
- DS14 (Scania 142): 14.2 liter V8 turbo diesel with 285 kW (388 PS), only for R and T cab
From 1983 also with charge air cooling , which improves the performance of the
- DSI8: (based on DS8) with water-cooled charge air cooler to 170 kW (231 PS),
- DSC11: (based on DS11) with air-cooled charge air cooler to 245 kW (333 PS) and
- DSC14: (based on DS14) with air-cooled intercooler increased to 309 kW (420 PS).
In 1984 the 9-liter 6-cylinder Scania 92 diesel engine replaced the Scania 82 as:
- DS9 162 kW (220 PS) with turbocharger,
- DSC9 180 kW (245 PS) with turbocharger and air-cooled intercooler,
- DSC9 202 kW (275 PS) with turbocharger and air-cooled intercooler.
In 1985 the output of the DSC11 increased to 260 kW (354 hp). The DS14 received charge air cooling in 1986, with output increasing moderately to 287 kW (390 hp). In 1987 the DS14 was again slightly revised and now developed 394 hp and, as the DSC14, continued to produce 309 kW, but with an increase in torque of around 3 percent and lower fuel consumption.
