The Scania R-series is a range of heavy trucks from the Swedish manufacturer Scania . The R series replaced Series 4 in 2005 . The design is similar to that of the previous model series, and their technology has also been adopted in many places. The combination of letters and numbers in the model designation indicates the series (R series) and the rounded engine output in hp. Models with an output of more than 368 kW (500 hp) and a V8 diesel engine are also referred to as V8s . In 2013, the Scania R-Streamline was introduced, which is only equipped with Euro 6 engines. Visually, it differs from the previous model through the newer aerodynamically optimized wind deflector on the side of the cab.
Cabs
Scania offers the R series with a total of five different cabs, all of which can be further customized.
- Medium-length R-cab (3,100 mm high)
- Low R-cab (3,100 mm high)
- Normal R-cab (3,340 mm high)
- Highline (3,540 mm high)
- Topline (3,860 mm high)
Emergency brake assistant
The models of the R-series are equipped with an emergency braking assistant ("Scania Advanced Emergency Braking System", AEB), which is supposed to help the driver to avoid collisions. If the driver is no longer able to act, the system automatically brings the truck to a stop.
transmission
Four manual and two automatic transmissions are available for the R series :
- 8-speed range manual transmission
- 8-speed range manual transmission with creeper gear
- 12-speed range-split manual transmission with two creeper gears
- 12-speed range-split manual transmission with overdrive and two creeper gears
- Allison gear
- Scania Opticruise
Engines
Scania offers the R series with different engines, all of which work on the diesel principle.
