Scaphula minuta is a shell - type from the family of ark shells (Arcidae). It lives in fresh and brackish water.

features

The housing , which has the same flap, is greatly elongated and roughly trapezoidal in outline. It is very small and very bulky (L: 4.5 mm, H: 2 mm, D: 2 mm). The vertebrae sit well in front of the midline (about a quarter from the front end). A distinct keel extends from the vertebra to the lower, rear end. It clearly separates the rear case field from the rest of the case. The ligament is elongated and extends in front of and behind the vertebrae. In the lock, the teeth sit in two groups, which are separated from each other by a toothless, central area. The posterior teeth are very crooked. The anterior sphincter is significantly smaller than the posterior sphincter.

The ornamentation in the central and front case field consists of fine growth strips parallel to the edge that intersect with radial lines. The rear housing field, separated from the keel, has keel-like ribs that intersect with weak growth strips. The three to four keel-like ribs protrude like a tent at the edge of the housing.

Similar species

Differs from the other species of the genus Scaphula by its small adult size and the strong, keel-like radial ribs in the rear shell field. But it is less bulbous than, for example, Scaphula deltae .

Geographical distribution and habitat

The distribution area of the species is so far only very poorly known. It has so far been proven in Thailand (east coast of the Thai part of the Malay Peninsula ) and Vietnam .

Scaphula minuta occurs in fresh and brackish water. It is attached to stones and water plants with byssus threads.

Taxonomy

The taxon was established by Ekendranath Gosh in 1922 . It is recognized as a valid taxon.
