Scene.org is an international non-profit organization whose goal is to support and promote the demo scene and now also many net labels for electronic music. Scene.org provides the world's largest demo scene-related file server , offers demo -scene-related groups and individuals as well as Netlabels free hosting services and has presented the Scene.org Awards for a decade .

tasks

Scene.org is run by around 15 volunteers from around the world and funded by sponsors . In addition to providing the worldwide mirrored file server with the same name, Scene.org operates a web forum and an IRC network. The target group of Scene.org includes not only the demo scene itself, but also those interested in getting an insight into this subculture .

history

In 1996 Jaakko "Mellow-D" Manninen started the FTP server ftp.fm.org to provide publications by the Five Musicians group . In 1997 the name changed to today's Scene.org . After the Hornet Archive - the largest demo scene archive to date - closed on September 22, 1998, Scene.org became the only known public demo scene FTP server and quickly assumed its current importance.

Scene.org Awards

From 2003 to 2012 Scene.org presented the Scene.org Awards . The Scene.org Awards were given annually to the creators of the best intros and demos of the previous year. The winners (with the exception of the audience award) were selected by a jury made up of respected demosceners from all over the world. The award ceremony traditionally took place at Breakpoint , since 2011 at The Gathering Party, at the same time as the Revision Party in Saarbrücken . The awards officially ended on February 4, 2013.

  • Best 64K intro
  • Best 4K Intro (since 2004)
  • Best effects
  • Best graphics
  • Best soundtrack
  • Best Direction (best design, good ideas)
  • Most Original Concept (new ideas, original implementations)
  • Breakthrough Performance (demo groups that had their breakthrough last year)
  • Audience Award (since 2004)
