Schänzchen (Bonn)
The Schänzchen was originally part of the Roman camp Castra Bonnensia , the legion camp on the site of Bonn .
In the 16th to 18th In the 19th century it was used by the Electors of Cologne as a military installation (" Schanze ") to control the Rhine .
In the 19th century there was a restaurant at Schänzchen that was frequented by Bonn students , such as the Alemannia Bonn fraternity . In 1884 they decided to buy the Schänzchen, at the same time a connecting house was built.
Today there is a beer garden on the terrace of the connecting house ; the vault below was restored in the mid-2000s and converted into a bar.
