Schönbornpark

The Schönborn Park is a 10,000 square meter park in the 8th district of Vienna at the Florianigasse and Long Lane .

The system goes back to the Palais Schönborn . At the beginning of the 18th century, Friedrich Karl von Schönborn bought a garden plot and had a palace built by Johann Lucas von Hildebrandt . After Schönborn was called to Würzburg as bishop in 1729 , the palace and garden were rented out.

In 1862 the area, which had meanwhile been greatly reduced due to new buildings, was acquired by the City of Vienna and opened to the public as Schönbornpark. A bunker was built here during the Second World War , and the structure of the paths was also significantly changed.

The Schönbornpark today includes play areas, seating and a dog zone .

Since June 15, 2006, various architectural monuments in Schönborn Park, such as the walling, the fountain and the toilet pavilion , have been listed . A summer linden tree ( Tilia platyphyllos ) was placed under protection as a Viennese natural monument in 645 . There is also a bust of Edmund Eysler and an oak tree, planted in 1934 and dedicated to Anton Wildgans , in the park .
