Schütte-Lanz RI

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Schütte-Lanz RI was the project of an extremely heavy long-range bomber for the German air force in the First World War .

The multi-engine R aircraft were used as long-range bombers with long range and heavy bomb load for strategic bombing. Since the German airship attacks were reduced and finally stopped due to heavy losses , giant aircraft in an even larger dimension than before were to be deployed and fill this gap.

development

The Schütte-Lanz company was primarily involved in the manufacture of military airships until 1918 , but also manufactured its own aircraft in its branch in Zeesen . In 1918 the manufacturer also started building a giant airplane. The aircraft was to be powered by six Basse & Selve engines with 300 hp each.

commitment

At the end of the war, the plane was not yet finished; there was no more use.
