The Selve Automotive GmbH (from 1922: Selve automotive Werke AG ) was a German automobile manufacturer .
Company history
The company was founded in 1919 as the industrialist Dr.-Ing. eh Walther von Selve bought the North German automobile works in Hameln . Together with the motor works Basse & Selve in Altena , they became part of a group founded by Gustav Selve .
Under the aegis of director Ernst Lehmann , medium-sized cars of conventional design with 4-cylinder engines were initially produced. Only motors from sister company Basse & Selve were used. These engines were developed by Walther von Selve and were the first engines with light metal pistons (aluminum alloy) that were ever installed in cars. At times up to 700 workers and employees were employed. From 1927 the company left the middle class behind and shifted to luxury limousines and Pullman limousines with 6-cylinder engines. However, the global economic crisis caused sales to stagnate, so that automobile production was given up in 1929. In 1934 the company finally went bankrupt , just two years after its sister company Basse & Selve.
