Ego 4/14 hp from 1922

Ego-Autobau GmbH , previously Ego-Werke and Ego-Werke AG , was a German manufacturer of automobiles .

Company history

The Mercur Flugzeugbau GmbH of Berlin in 1921 founded the first person works for the production of automobiles. In 1923 it was converted into a stock corporation . Romer Wankmüller, August Bergschmidt, Richard Geissler, Franz Josef Busch and Karl Otto v. Haugwitz. Otto Graf was technical director. In October the company went bankrupt for the first time . The Hiller automobile factory took over the production of the vehicles and used the Hiller brand name . On December 10, 1925, the newly founded Ego-Autobau GmbH acquired the manufacturing rights from the bankrupt Hiller-Automobilwerke. The production in small series now took place under the direction of Wilhelm Hiller at Automechanik GmbH . Production ended in 1927. The car mechanics GmbH was until 1931 responsible for the supply of spare parts.

The first 4/14 hp model had a four-cylinder engine with a displacement of 1016 cm³ from our own production. The engine developed 15 hp . The wheelbase was 256 cm and the curb weight was 700 kg.

At least one vehicle took part in the small car race at the Berlin AVUS in 1923.

In the autumn of 1924, the improved 4/20 hp model and the 4/24 hp sports car with a two-carburetor engine came out.

The larger 5/25 hp model followed in 1925, which offered space for four people and already had four-wheel brakes. The four-cylinder engine with OHV valve control had a capacity of 1320 cm³ and made 25 hp. The wheelbase was 280 cm. The vehicle weighed 850 kg.

One vehicle has been preserved and is in the vintage car museum in Bredstedt .
