prehistory

Christian Eduard Orloff Hansen founded the Orloff Hansen Chemical Factory in Bannewitz in 1907 . During the First World War it became an armaments company and manufactured parts for aircraft . After the end of the war, a new business area was sought. In 1919 the development of an automobile began under the direction of Walter Wippermann . At this time the name was changed to Pilotmotorenwerke Bannewitz . Vehicle production began in 1921. The brand name was Pilot . Another chapter was needed for expansion.

Company history

The company was founded on August 8, 1922 as the successor. It had the legal form of a stock corporation . The share capital was 12.7 million marks when it was founded as a result of the high inflation and was converted to 100,000 Reichsmarks after the currency stabilization. The director of the company was the Dresden-based engineer Wilhelm Dirks . The Supervisory Board were Kommerzienrat Carl Otto Schmelzer (Chairman of the wagon factory Werdau, aviation pioneer), Gustav Kozlowski (CEO of wagon factory Werdau), bank director William Boettger (Deputy Chairman of the wagon factory Werdau), producer Ernst Werner ( Reichenbach i. V. ), Richard Wittich ( Co-owner of the Sophienthal weaving, bleaching and finishing plant brothers Wittich in Sophienthal in Bohemia), director Hermann Siodmak ( Opava ) and pharmacist Julian Abeles ( Teplitz-Schönau ). In 1924 there were 150 employees.

The Sächsische Waggonfabrik Werdau AG owned the majority of the shares from 1924, at the latest since then almost all chassis produced in Bannewitz have been transferred to Werdau and provided there with the standard bodies . In 1926, Pilot's number of employees fell to 70. There were problems between the two companies, which were also due to the great distance. In 1927 it was decided that at the end of March 1928 Pilot's headquarters should be relocated to Werdau. This was also given as a reason for some layoffs.

On May 19, 1928 the liquidation was decided. Julius Kempe was appointed liquidator. The number of employees fell to 20 to 25 people. On October 25, 1928 the company name changed to Automobil AG iL Bannewitz . Spare parts and repairs were made until 1931. The company was deleted on August 21, 1931.
