C. Benz Sons was an automobile manufacturer and supplier that was founded on June 9, 1906 by Carl Benz and his son Eugen Benz in Ladenburg .
Company history
As early as 1903, Carl Benz had dealt with the management of the Mannheim-based automobile manufacturer Benz & Cie. overwhelmed and wanted to start all over again in order to be able to realize his own model policy.
It was not until 1908 that Carl Benz's second son, Richard Benz (* October 21, 1874, † September 19, 1955), became a co-owner. In 1906, a 10/18 hp prototype was built , with which the company took part in the 1909 Prince Heinrich ride with great success. The car reached 90 km / h in the speed test. In 1909, series production of the 10/18 PS, Series B also started. In 1912, Carl Benz, who has since been given a position on the Supervisory Board at Benz & Cie. had offered to leave the company and his two sons took over the management. Until the First World War , C. Benz Söhne essentially only offered one car model, but it was constantly being further developed. The numbers, however, remained modest.
From 1913 they tried to vehicles with Hanriot - valve engines produce. These motors, the gas exchange of which were controlled by roller valves instead of valves , were a further development of the sleeve valve motor based on the ideas of Charles Yale Knight . However, there was no series production of these vehicles.
After the war, car production with the pre-war models was resumed, but was finally discontinued in 1923/24 due to lack of profitability. Since then the company has been working as an automotive supplier. Operations ceased in 2010.
