Hermes-Simplex was a German - Alsatian car brand.

Company history

The car salesman Émile Mathis and the engineer Ettore Bugatti met at De Dietrich . Mathis ran an important trading company for automobiles and hired Bugatti as a designer for the new brand, which was to offer high-priced automobiles. The vehicles were manufactured by the Société Alsacienne de Construction Mécanique in Graffenstaden (SACM). In 1906 they ended their collaboration. Mathis started producing cars under his Mathis name from 1910 .

Sporty vehicles with large four-cylinder engines were produced . The 40/50 PS model had a displacement of 7430 cm³, the 50/60 PS either 8480 cm³ or 8986 cm³ and the 80/90 PS 12058 cm³ displacement. The vehicles were also used in car races.
