history
founding
Friedrich Lux, born on November 28, 1854 in Mainz (as the son of the composer of the same name Friedrich Lux ), came to Ludwigshafen am Rhein in 1880, where numerous companies grew in the vicinity of BASF , e. B. BK Giulini GmbH & Co. KG. Lux started as a chemist at the gas works of the Palatinate Railway Company, founded his own factory "Lux", patented "Lux-Masse" (made from waste products from Giulini's clay production) in 1882, committed himself to the opening of an observatory and constructed with success Measuring devices (from which Spanner-Pollux became, today part of the SPX Corporation ). Encouraged by his neighbor Carl Benz on the right bank of the Rhine a few kilometers away , he planned and built a car with a gasoline engine before the turn of the century.
1898-1902
From the company Lux works were Lux'sche industry Werke AG . Their first automobile was produced in 1898. In addition to cash, the IPO brought new challenges: the shareholders did not share the view of the company's founder Friedrich Lux, who angrily resigned as General Manager in 1902 (as had Gottlieb Daimler and Carl Benz in their own company foundations). Auto production ceased in 1902.
Products
The company's original products were gas lighting systems.
The first vehicle model from 1897 had a two-cylinder engine in the rear. The body offered space for four people. In 1901 the 10/12 HP model appeared with a front engine. The boxer engine with 1900 cc capacity made 10 PS . The Tonneau body shape offered space for four people. Vehicles with electric motors were also produced.
