Israel Chemicals Ltd. ( ICL for short , Hebrew כימיקלים לישראל בע"מ) is an international chemical company and manufacturer of fertilizers, inorganic phosphorus chemicals, flame retardants, plasticizers, hydraulic fluids as well as technical hydrochloric acid and food additives. It was state-owned until privatization in 1992. Israel Chemicals accounts for 35% of global bromine production and 11% of potash salt production . Israel Chemicals is the world market leader in bromine and pure phosphoric acid . ICL also ranks first worldwide for potassium dihydrogen phosphate (MKP) and sixth for potash salt. The bromine, potassium and magnesium salts are mined in the Dead Sea and the Negev desert , among other places .

The group is divided into the Essential Minerals and Specialty Solutions divisions. The Essential Minerals division includes the ICL Potash & Magnesium, ICL Phosphate and ICL Specialty Fertilizers business units. The Specialty Solutions division comprises the ICL Industrial Products, ICL Advanced Additives and ICL Food Specialties divisions.

The company is headquartered in Tel Aviv and achieved sales of around 5.4 billion US dollars in 2015 with around 13,000 employees.

In 2012, the Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan offered $ 16 billion for a takeover of ICL. Both management and majority owners were in favor of the sale, but the State of Israel made use of its right of veto.

The billionaire Idan Ofer , Israel's richest man and one of the 500 richest men in the world, controlled by shares directly held and the investment vehicle Israel Corporation , the majority of ICL.

BK Giulini GmbH

Giulini-Chemie, founded by Georg Giulini in 1823, has been part of the ICL Group since 1977 . In 1996, BK Ladenburg , founded as Benckiser Knapsack (BK), was taken over by Hoechst . 1997 Giulini Chemie and BK Ladenburg merge and become BK Giulini GmbH. BK Giulini GmbH is part of ICL Advanced Additives.

In 2015 ICL parted with several business areas of BK Giulini GmbH. The water chemistry business was sold to the Japanese Kurita Group for EUR 250 million . The transaction affects 460 employees internationally, including around 250 in Ludwigshafen and 35 in Düsseldorf. Other locations in Europe and China are also affected. The Rhenoflex division, the business with shoe caps and shoe heels, was also sold. Rhenoflex was sold to the holding company Findos. The Anti-Germ group of companies , including the Irish Medentech, were sold to the holding company Paragon Partners .

ICL-IP Terneuzen BV

ICL-IP Terneuzen , part of the ICL Industrial Products division, belongs to ICL , the former Broomchemie founded in 1970 from Terneuzen in the Netherlands . It produces various organobromine compounds .
