The Excelsiorwerke GmbH, Factory for Precision Mechanics & Automobile Construction Company was a German machine and automobile manufacturer that was based in Cologne-Nippes from 1900 to 1914 . There was no connection with the Excelsior bicycle works in Brandenburg (Havel) , nor with various motorcycle and automobile manufacturers in Great Britain , Belgium or Switzerland .
At first one dealt with the construction of phonographs and dictation machines . An automobile repair shop was attached. From 1910 onwards, the company also built its own automobiles , which were offered under the brand name Excelsior-Mascot .
The four-seat Phaetons and sedans had Fafnir engines . The two-cylinder model developed 8 hp (5.9 kW), while the four-cylinder models developed 14 hp (10.3 kW) or 18 hp (13.2 kW).
In 1914 production was stopped with the beginning of the First World War . Until 1920 the company had an automobile repair workshop on Niehler Kirchweg. Existing vehicles were offered until 1922.
