The Freia Automobil AG was a German automobile manufacturer.

description

The company was founded on February 18, 1920 as Kleinauto AG in Greiz . The Kleinautobau AG is mentioned elsewhere . Kurt Hempel, Rudolf Göldner, Bruno Pust, Bruno Seibig, Hans Kretzschmar, Carl Menzel, Alfred Roth, Heinrich Geisser, Paul Sarfert, Paul Lorenz, Carl Semper, Georg Kanis, Reinhold Malz and Hermann Schulz were involved. Reinhold Malz, Emil Kretzschmar, Alfred Rietzsch, Wilhelm Kaestner and Rudolf Klinger sat on the seat of the board. From 1922 small cars were built in the former spinning mill FH Malz (Green Lime Tree) under the direction of Arthur Schuh .

In 1923 the name was changed to Freia-Automobil AG . The share capital was increased by 4.6 million to 9.6 million Reichsmarks. The authorized representative was the businessman Ernst Braun. For economic reasons, production of the Freia had to be stopped in 1927. Arthur Schuh switched to Rasmussen's DKW Group and became Technical Director of Audi in Zwickau . Today two existing examples of Freia automobiles are known.

Models

tricycle

From 1920 to 1921 there was a tricycle with a rear single wheel. It had a two-cylinder two - stroke engine . It drove the rear wheel via a chain. The open body offered space for two people. It stayed with prototypes .

Type S5

From 1921 Arthur Schuh took over the technical management and until 1922 developed a new small car, which came onto the market under the brand name Freia as type S 5, which initially had a side-controlled four - cylinder in - line engine with 1.3 l displacement (64 mm bore and 100 mm Stroke) and standing valves. The crankshaft was on roller bearings and the engine developed 14 hp. Noticeable was the Underslung frame , which gave the car a low center of gravity and thus safe road holding.

Type S 23

In 1923 it was renamed Freia Automobil-AG. In the same year, the type S 23 appeared with a 1.3 liter four-cylinder that developed around 25 hp at 2500 rpm. The valves hanging in the non-removable cylinder head were actuated by an overhead camshaft that was driven by a vertical shaft. In 1925 the camshaft drive was changed and a chain drive was used for the first time in Germany. The crankshaft was guided in two ball bearings.

For sporting events, the engines were given a higher compression (7.5: 1) and fitted with a special camshaft. These engines achieved around 35 hp and were installed in Freia sports cars with an aluminum body and pointed tail, which reached a top speed of 135 km / h.

Type S 24

From 1926 the type S 24 was built with a larger engine. This had a displacement of 1460 cm³ and made 30 HP, as a competition vehicle 45 HP. Only a few vehicles of the S 24 were built.
