Protect Ryffli

The shooter Ryffli ( [ˈrifːli] ) is a legendary figure from the history of Bern in the 14th century.

Legend

According to the Bernese chronicler Konrad Justinger the Bernese troops besieged after the Battle of Laupen the Castle Burgistein of the Burgundians allied knights Jordan III. from Burgistein .

Jordan von Burgistein wrongly assumed that the Bernese troops were on the run and is said to have said

"That was a good blacksmith who forged this war against the Bernese" ,

made fun of the Bernese.

Ryffli saw Jordan at a window of the castle and killed him with an aimed arrow shot. He is said to have called:

"That is a good blacksmith gsyn who forged this pfyl."
