Ryffli Fountain
The Ryfflibrunnen ( [ˈrifːli] ) is located in Aarbergergasse in Bern and is one of the Bernese fountains in the old town from the 16th century.
history
The fountain was built in the middle of the alley in 1545 in place of a 14th century facility and was called Golatenmattgassbrunnen until the 19th century . The current name goes back to a more recent theory, according to which the statue represents the legendary rifleman Ryffli , who, according to the chronicle of Konrad Justinger, killed the knight Jordan III with a targeted shot after the battle of Laupen . von Burgistein is said to have killed. He is said to have carelessly appeared at a window during the siege of his castle by the Bernese. According to other opinions, the model for the fountain figure was Captain Anton Güder.
The fountain figure of a captain of the crossbowmen was created by the journeymen of Hans Gieng . The warrior is accompanied by a little bear armed with a flintlock rifle.
