Crown fountain
The Kronenbrunnen , also known as the Oberer Postgassbrunnen , Kanzleybrunnen or colloquially as the Lischetti fountain , is located in front of the Postgasse 70 house below the Bern town hall in the old town of Bern . It belongs to the non-figurative Bernese fountains of the 18th and 19th centuries. Century. Together with the Maybrunnen it is one of the two wells in Postgasse that are in operation.
history
Since 1820-25 the Kronenbrunnen has stood in the design we know today - with the exception of the fountain installation by Carlo E. Lischetti - at the same location behind the Gasthof zur Krone, which gave it its name, in Postgasse in front of the corner pillar of the arcade of the Bern State Chancellery. - The Postgasse was officially called Hormansgasse or Hormatsgasse until 1798 and was also called that way well into the 19th century. The Postgasse is the eastern, lower part of the Hormansgasse or Hormatsgasse , the western, upper part is the Rathausgasse, formerly Metzgergasse.
It is not known when the crown fountain was built. In 1732 the first evidence of a fountain in the corner of the State Chancellery on Postgasse is available. Shortly beforehand, the system had received a new basin made of Stockerensandstein and should probably correspond to the fountain “on the hormadsgassen”. The fountain was renewed twice, in 1743–1745 in the same way as the Metzgerngassbrunnen, which was built at the same time and no longer exists today, and in 1820–1825 when the entire system was replaced one last time.
This last version is the only one in the style of high classicism in the old town of Bern. It consists of a side trough, main basin and stick aligned on an axis in the longitudinal direction of the alley. The stick with the cast iron fountain tube is a square trimmings on it a square pillar with a protruding cover plate and a fluted column stump as a conclusion. To the east of the floor stands the rectangular basin with re-entrant circles at the corners, at a distance on a base plate with re-entrant circles at the corners. Then the side trough. The whole system is made of white Jura limestone .
Instead of a fountain figure
In 1992 the Bernese artist Carlo E. Lischetti was able to install an iron staircase with a pedestal and railing on the fountain, despite the objection of the association “Heit Sorg zu Bärn” against his fountain sculpture. Since then, the Kronenbrunnen has also been known as the Lischetti Fountain and everyone can stage themselves as a living fountain figure.
