Sagittarius Quadrille

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Schützen-Quadrille is a quadrille of the three brothers Johann , Josef and Eduard Strauss . It was first performed on July 28, 1868 in Vienna's Volksgarten .

The joint effort of the three Strauss brothers was created on the occasion of the third German federal shooting in Vienna. It was a big festival in which shooting clubs from all over Europe took part. Josef Strauss composed the first two parts of the work. Eduard did the middle part with movements three and four, while Johann contributed the fifth part and the finale to the composition. The world premiere was performed by several bands that brought about 200 musicians to the stage. In addition to the waltz Trifolien from 1865, this work is the second and last joint composition by all three Strauss brothers.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 6 minutes and 2 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
