Chess flower (heraldry)

The chess flower (lat .: Fritillaria meleagris ), also called checkerboard flower or Kiebitzei called, is in the Heraldry a rare coat of arms figure .

A special meaning for the heraldry is not known. In mythology she was the flower of Meleager . The inclined flower is supposed to symbolize the mourning over the death of the hunter who killed the Caledonian boar , in other spelling, Calydonian boar .

The representation in the coat of arms follows the general heraldic rules and the bell-like flower can be with or without a stem and leaf. Combinations with other heraldic figures are possible.
