Shaft dimension

A shaft dimension is a historical spatial dimension that was used for the dimensioning of earth and masonry in construction and earthworks . As a rule, the lengths and widths were the same length and the height defined the measure and corresponded to a lower level of the length measure.

Classical shaft dimensions which were Schachtrute containing 1 Quadratrute times 1 Werkfuß or 144 Prussian cubic foot (4.4519 m 3 ) corresponded to the northern German or shaft work , the 1/4 pot corresponded hamburgische and 256 cubic feet. In Bremen, on the other hand, the shaft rod was a length of 20 feet for earthworks.
