The shaft was a Schleswig-Holstein shaft and volume measure and was mainly used for earthworks.

1 shaft = 256 cubic feet = 6.0247 cubic meters
1 cubic meter = 0.16598 manhole
1 pot = 4 shafts = 1024 cubic feet = 24.099 cubic meters ( Hamburg )

In Bremen , on the other hand , the shaft rod was a length of 20 feet for earthworks.
