The sheep bridge near Beesen in the south of the city of Halle (Saale) spans the White Elster and connects the city area with the Elster-Saale-Aue . It is an arch bridge , the supporting structure of which consists of four arches. It owes its name to the owner of the former brick factory, Albert Schaaf. The second "a" was lost over time.
The building on the Heerstraße from Magdeburg to Merseburg, once also known as the Zollbrücke , was built in 1733 as a replacement for a wooden predecessor made of sandstone.
In 1945 the bridge was blown up when American troops approached and rebuilt in 1946.
The following legend is associated with the construction of the bridge :
“During construction, what had been built during the day collapsed again at night. Only when a child was sacrificed - it is said to have been walled in - the bridge could be completed. The mother found no rest after her gruesome act after her death. "
