A formwork support , is a made of wood , rarely of aluminum , fabricated I-beam , which is usually a bar position for formworks used in the building industry.

The inventor of the formwork girder is the Steidle company, and the world's largest manufacturer is the Austrian Doka Group and the German company Peri .

Design and requirements

The I-profile, designed for static requirements, as a high beam , enables the absorption of a high bending moment with a low weight. This principle of a slim cross-section with high flexural rigidity is otherwise particularly used in steel construction.

The connecting bridge is made of solid wood or wood-based materials or, in order to save weight, as a simple framework .

Another weight saving is possible with aluminum formwork beams. The disadvantage of an aluminum beam is that other formwork parts can only be attached with nails in certain places (more precisely: an enclosed wooden strip) . Advantages, on the other hand, are higher load values, dimensional stability (no swelling or shrinkage due to water), weather resistance and durability.
