background

Starting point of the foundation

Boy playing: Schams eV offers Syrian children a better future (2008)

The war in Syria, which has been going on since spring 2011, has cost the lives of around 500,000 people to date , according to estimates by the United Nations Special Envoy for Syria. The armed conflict led to the disintegration of Syria. Over 8 million people are on the run. Many of them are children and young people.

"The youth are a lost generation," explained Hans Schiler, justifying the need and urgency to found a supportive initiative. Schams eV collects funds through donations and charity events in order to give young Syrians a good start in adult life. “We want Syrian children to have a life after the war,” explains Rafik Schami.

The association based in Tübingen works together with institutions and organizations that implement long-term and interdenominational projects.
