The Schanze des Friedens was a ski jumping facility on the 824  m high Geisingberg near the town of Altenberg in the Free State of Saxony . At the beginning of professional winter sports, it was the venue for several competitions.

history

At the turn of the century, the first jumping hill was built on Geisingberg, where the first Saxony championship was held in 1908. In the years after 1918, several ski clubs established themselves in the Saxony Ski Association and enlarged their jumping facilities, including the Schanze des Friedens , formerly called Geisingbergschanze. Around 1930 the natural hill was expanded into a large hill with a wooden tower and was given the name "Sachsenschanze", on which the 1937 German championships took place. After 1945 the ski jump was finally called the Schanze des Friedens , on which the GDR championships in 1958 were held as the highlight . In the summer of 1962 the dilapidated inrun tower was blown up and the jump was not rebuilt.

The hill record was set by Hans Marr in 1941 with a distance of 72 m.
