Hans Marr (born October 7, 1914 in Oberhof , † March 20, 1942 in Baryssau ) was a German ski jumper .

Career

Marr, who like his father was a shoemaker, started skiing at an early age. After the first ski jump was built in his home town of Oberhof in 1928 , he was one of the first jumpers. He celebrated his first victory at the Thuringian Championship in 1930.

Marr was part of the German team at the 1936 Winter Olympics in Garmisch-Partenkirchen . In the individual competition on the normal hill, he reached 10th place as the best German. From 1937 he belonged to the 3rd Mountain Infantry Regiment 100 in Bad Reichenhall as a non-commissioned officer .

At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Lahti in 1938 , Marr reached 18th place with jumps of 63 and 61 meters. A year later at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Zakopane in 1939 he reached 13th place.

On the Schanze des Friedens in 1941 he jumped the largest distance ever achieved there of 72 m. (Hill record)

Marr fell during the Second World War in the Russian campaign in 1942 as a member of Sergeant Troop Unit 2, Company Jagdkommando 1, in Belarus after skiing down a mine. He was buried in Shchituny without a name. The transfer to the Duchowschtschina war cemetery by the Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge is planned; Hans Marr's personal data are entered in the memorial book there.

The Hans Marr Cup , a regional ski jumping cup competition, is held in Oberhof and the surrounding area in honor of Marr . In the 1950s it was planned to rename the youth ski jump at Wadeberg in Hans-Marr-Schanze , which was rejected in 1956.
