Scharpenberg (noble family, Elbmarschen)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Scharpenberg (also: Scharpenberge or Scharpenbergs ) was the name of an old Holstein noble family who lived in the Haseldorfer and Krempermarsch .

history

According to recent research, the Scharpenbergs, a knightly noble family from Holstein, were a line of those from Scharpenbergh / Scharffenberg in the Duchy of Saxony-Lauenburg , and appeared several times in documents from the rulers of the Schauenburg territories. The first mention was in 1259. Further documentary mentions followed from 1272. They had their own jurisdiction, which extended to the right bank of the Stör near Itzehoe . They probably did not take their name from the mountain in today's Hohenhorst district, which was formerly located on the Haselau Elbe beach. Even today, a moat as part of a drainage system testifies to the existence of the former castle. The Holstein branch of the noble family probably died out in the middle of the 14th century if it did not merge into the Schulenburg family, which still lives in Prussia . In Stormarn, the Elbmarschen, in the diocese of Münster and in Denmark there were different branches of this noble family.
