Sönnich Detlef Friedrich Detlefsen (born September 25, 1833 in Neuendeich ; † July 21, 1911 in Glückstadt ), often performing as Detlef Detlefsen , was a German high school teacher and homeland researcher .

Life

He was born as the son of the village school teacher of the same name in the "old school" in Neuendeich and attended the learned school in Glückstadt from 1842 to 1850 . After passing his matriculation examination, he studied classical philology and theology at the universities of Kiel , Bonn , Berlin and then again Kiel, where he received his doctorate on April 24, 1855 . Detlefsen then went to Vienna as a private tutor, later to Italy for a few years and then to Paris. In the summer of 1863 Detlefsen returned to Germany and was initially an assistant teacher at a high school in Kiel and from 1864 at a high school in Flensburg. On October 1, 1865, he switched to teaching at the school for scholars in Glückstadt, where he was director from February 17, 1879 until he left on October 1, 1904. In the same year he was appointed privy councilor .

In Glückstadt, Detlefsen devoted himself intensively to the history and culture of his homeland, the Holstein Elbmarschen . Through his work, regional historical research in the area of the Elbmarschen between Wedel and Brunsbüttel was decisively promoted.

The collection of the Detlefsen Museum in Glückstadt goes back to Detlefsen's instigation . The Glückstadt School of Academics was named after him: From 1933 to 2004 "Bildungsstätte Detlefsenschule", since 2004 "Detlefsengymnasium". The Detlefsen Society Glückstadt was also named after him. It is an association to research the history of the Elbmarschen (Kremper and Wilstermarsch). The aim is to expand and deepen knowledge of regional history. The founding appeal of the company from 1921 refers to Detlefsen when it says that one wants to work in the spirit of the man "who was a connoisseur of our homeland and a herald of its uniqueness and beauty".
