history

The aerial tramway with a support and a rope was 1960 by Waagner Biro built. After the renovation in 1973, the cable car was the largest gondola lift in Austria with 100 people per cabin and had the strongest suspension cable (63 mm) in the world. Nevertheless, the capacity was no longer sufficient over the years and the lift was dismantled in 2002 and replaced by a circulating cable car with two sections, the Schattberg X-Press.

The train led from the outskirts of Saalbach over the parking lot, Glemmerstraße and Saalach to the Schattberg and over two supports to the central summit. Both stations had moving platforms. The system was controlled from the mountain station.
