Ludwig Jörder (born July 22, 1946 in Arnsberg ) is a German politician and lawyer. From the mid-1970s he was a member of the SPD parliamentary group in the Dortmund City Council. He became known through his activities as a longtime CEO of Westfalenhallen Dortmund GmbH and Chairman of the WDR - Board .

Life

Jörder studied law at the Ruhr University in Bochum from 1967 to 1972 . After the three-year legal traineeship from 1972 to 1975, he received his doctorate in 1977 with Dilcher at the University of Bochum. For the following eight years, Jörder worked as a lawyer and finally as a notary until 1985 . As the successor to the SPD politician Hermann Heinemann , who entered the Rau cabinet as Minister of Labor and Social Affairs in 1985 , he became managing director of Westfalenhalle Dortmund GmbH. He stayed in this role for 26 years until he retired at 65 in July 2011.

During his tenure as the top manager of the Westfalenhallen, a lot was invested and the corporate group of the independent municipal business was completely restructured. Halls 6 (1986) and 7 (1989), Hall 8 (1996) as well as Hall 3 B and the central administration building (2005) were added. Between 1998 and 2000 the congress center was completely modernized. The central Westfalenhalle was also completely renovated. From 1995, the GmbH took over the investments and construction activities on the site in full. From then on, you had to get along without any municipal subsidies and pay lease to the city of Dortmund.

Since 1999 Jörder has been chairman of the supreme supervisory body of Westdeutscher Rundfunk, the WDR administrative board; in December 2012 he began his third six-year term.

The lawyer has twice been criticized by the national media. In 2009, Der Spiegel reported on a possible violation by the chairman of the board of directors against the North Rhine-Westphalian WDR law. According to Clause 13, members of the broadcasting and administrative boards are not allowed to do business with the broadcaster beyond their official duties. The Süddeutsche Zeitung discovered in 2010 that the heads of the supervisory board and administrative board of WDR own shares in the channel's flourishing advertising subsidiary. Both affairs fizzled out; the Chairman of the Board of Directors was confirmed in office.

In retirement, Ludwig Jörder returned to politics and was the SPD's top candidate in the 2014 local elections for the city center north . At the constituent session of the district parliament on June 11, 2014, he was elected district mayor as a candidate of the strongest parliamentary group .

Ludwig Jörder is married to the SPD politician Birgit Jörder, who has been a member of the Dortmund City Council since 1994 and has been a (honorary) mayor since 2004.
