It got its name from a ridge that lies between the places Wiebelskirchen and Hangard (Neunkirchen) and is part of the Blies-Oster ridge. The hiking trail leads over this natural area, which belongs to the Saar-Nahe-Bergland .

The Schauinslandweg begins at the idyllic Randsbachweiher of the Wiebelskirchen fishing club. The path leads past the pond through a meadow and you reach an asphalt road. At this road, turn right and after a few meters turn off following a dirt road. It now goes uphill, where the path soon turns left and the first lookout point is reached. Walking through the meadows, the hiker passes the Hiemsbrunnen and can rest at the Hiemshütte of the Wiebelskirchen hiking club. The path continues to climb, leading through meadows and reaches the Schauinsland, after which the path is named. After this vantage point, you continue across the meadows to Steinbacher Berg and you come to an agricultural path that you follow downhill. After about 200 meters the path turns to the left, where you can enjoy a wonderful view of the Hangard district of Neunkirchen and shortly after the Rohner Brunnen you come across an agricultural path again. Here you go to the right, where after half a kilometer you turn left into a dirt road. Above the Oster (Blies) valley , the path becomes narrower and narrower and after a kilometer you reach a resting place at a quarry and shortly afterwards a historic boundary stone from 1763. Now the path goes downhill and you reach the gorge of the Kerbacher Loch. Here the Schauinslandweg meets the Steinbachpfad and both paths remain identical to the refuge of the Kerbacher Loch leisure facility. The path then leads uphill into the forest, where it meets the Steinbachpfad again after 300 meters. Going further to the left, you keep walking and the Steinbachpfad turns right, while the hiker of the Schauinslandweg walks straight ahead and reaches the edge of the forest. Here you have a beautiful view of the Höcherberg and, walking up the edge of the forest, you reach the Betzelhübel panorama tower . Now the Schauinslandweg and the Steinbachpfad become identical for the last time and the path leads above the town of Ottweiler through orchards. Then the Schauinslandweg branches off to the right and leads steeply downhill to the fishing hut of the ASV Hangard at the Leimersbrunnen fish pond. From there, following a small path, the path goes uphill again and you reach the last highlight of the path, the Hiemsklamm, over a meadow. Here you cross the gorge twice and can stop again at the Hiemshütte. At the end of the gorge you reach an agricultural path and after about 400 meters you reach the forest hotel in Humesweg, where you cross the meadow to the Randsbachweiher of the Wiebelskirchen fishing club and reach the parking lot and thus the destination of the hike again.
