The pseudo-lobed bees ( Panurginus ) are a genus of bees from the Andrenidae family with around 30 species. Bees of this genus occur both in North America ( Nearctic ) and with 18 species in the Palearctic . They are closely related to the genus Panurgus . In Germany the species P. herzi and P. montanus occur, which can be found in the Allgäu and the Berchtesgaden Alps. A third species, P. labiatus , has been lost in Germany since 1912, but is still found in Austria (Burgenland, Lower Austria) and Switzerland, P. serricatus occurs in Switzerland and Austria.

features

The pseudo-lobed bees are 5 to 7 mm long and resemble small black sand bees. They can be recognized by the two cubital cells in the fore wing and the small size. The males of the native species have a light yellow head shield ( clypeus ).

Way of life

The pseudo-lobed bees fly from June to August, have only one generation a year and nest in the ground. They dig their nests in partially overgrown ground, sometimes well above the tree line.

The females transport the pollen with the help of a brush made of loose hair on the hind leg. The pollen moistened with nectar surrounds the rear rail in a ring, similar to Melitturga's .
