False shrub

A false shrub (in botanical jargon: pseudophanerophyte) is a perennial plant in which the above-ground parts are one or two years old, but then die at the latest. The plant is constantly renewing itself from the underground organs.

This year's shoots from survival buds of the aboveground, trunkless, richly branched and mostly only slightly woody axis system bloom in the second year, then die off and are replaced every year by new innovation shoots .

Examples are stone berries and raspberries .
