Schellendorf (desert)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Schellendorf desert is in the corridor between the villages of Poppendorf and Wetzdorf in the Saale-Holzland district in Thuringia .

Explanations of the location and the desert

During excavations for the realization of the building permit for wind turbines in the vicinity of the mentioned villages, remnants of the long-known desert were discovered and sighted in 2013. The name of the desert village could be determined using known documents.

history

The announced investigations show that the village was creeping out and the fratricidal war of 1451 was the last cause to become desolate, one writes. From an agricultural point of view, it is doubtful whether the lack of water caused the village to slowly leave the village on soils similar to black earth in this area. At that time, these mostly water-bearing, sorbent soils with high retention capacity mostly had water-bearing and scrub-covered erosion channels . Wells and cisterns probably had water in stock. The fratricidal war was probably the reason for the immediate but slowly abandoning appearance of the fertile soil in the village. They probably moved to neighboring villages to protect people and animals and cultivated the land from here.
