Johann Friedrich Carl Rath

Johann Friedrich Carl Rath (born January 23, 1796 in Zwickau , † October 14, 1875 in Leipzig ) was a musician , arranger , conductor and composer .

Rath entered the military on February 1, 1812. In 1821 he was entrusted with the task of building up the music corps of the Royal Saxon Fusilier Regiment , which was established in Dresden in the same year from units of the Royal Saxon Jäger Brigade, also known as the Black Brigade . He headed the music corps until 1846 and composed many pieces of music for official use.

His "Presentation March of the Black Brigade" was originally the flag march of the association. This march was included in 1933 as H (eeres) -M (arsch) I, 59 in the Deutsche Heeresmarschsammlung (1933–1945), the continuation of the Prussian army march collection.
