The Schenkendorf monument was a memorial on the Schenkendorfplatz in Tilsit .

description

The memorial shows Max von Schenkendorf on a base made of polished red granite with the inscription "Max von Schenkendorf, born in Tilsit, December 11, 1783, died in Coblenz, December 11, 1817" . On the back are the words: "I don't want to break my word. I want to preach and speak about the emperor and the empire"

history

The memorial was created by Martin Engelke in 1890 and erected in Tilsit. It was relocated towards the end of the Second World War and has been lost ever since. In today's Sovetsk the founder of the Soviet Union VI Lenin (created by A. Waldis and K. Stis) has stood on the monument base since 1967 . A memorial plaque is attached to the house where Max von Schenkendorf was born in uliza Gerzena 1 (formerly Packhofstrasse).
