Georg Hermanowski

Georg Hermanowski (born November 27, 1918 in Allenstein , East Prussia , † October 22, 1993 in Bonn ) was a German writer and translator .

Life

Georg Hermanowski attended a high school in Olsztyn and began after high school , a study of the jurisprudence at Berlin's Friedrich Wilhelm University , which he, however, after a semester had to stop because he the Wehrmacht was drafted. After the end of the Second World War , he studied German , Dutch , art history and archeology at the University of Bonn from 1945 to 1948 . During his studies he worked as a trainee and editor in a publishing house. From 1950 he lived as a freelance writer and translator in Bad Godesberg .

Georg Hermanowski's work consists of novels , short stories , essays , poems and plays ; In addition , in the 1950s and 1960s he translated a large number of prose works and poems from Flemish , Dutch and English into German . Since the late 1970s, the focus of his literary work has been on remembering his East Prussian homeland.

Georg Hermanowski was a member of the Free German Association of Authors and the Esslingen Artists' Guild . He held u. a. The following awards: 1962 the Belgian State Prize for Literature , 1963 the knight level of the Belgian Order of the Crown , 1972 the honorary gift of the Andreas Gryphius Prize , 1973 the Nicolaus Copernicus Medal and 1975 the Nicolaus Copernicus Prize .
