Héctor Ramón Zelaya Rivera (born August 12, 1957 in Trinidad , Santa Bárbara , Honduras ) is a former Honduran football player . He was used primarily as a defender . Among other things, he played for CD Motagua .

Life

Héctor Ramón Zelaya Rivera began his career in 1976 as a defensive midfielder for CD Motagua at the age of 17. On March 7, 1976 he had his first game for this club in the Liga Nacional de Fútbol Profesional de Honduras in a 1-0 win over Atlético Olanchano . He stayed there for the longest time of his career at the age of 6.

In 1982 he moved to Deportivo La Coruña for one season . A year later he went back to CD Motagua , which he left again in the same year. His last game for Motagua was against Universidad at the age of 24.

National team

Héctor Zelaya played in three games for Honduras U-20s at the U-20 World Cup .

At the 1982 World Cup , he scored the first of two goals in the history of the Honduran national soccer team against Spain . After playing past the penalty area, he shot over the goalkeeper into the goal. Before the game, Zelaya had torn meniscus and was operated on. However, this had not healed properly and he was in pain during the game. The game was played in Valencia , Spain .

Exit

After his career as a football player, he worked on the coffee plantation of his wife Marlen Perdomo's family for 25 years . He has four children with her: Héctor, Iving, Alejandra and Marlen. He also worked for the children's soccer program Fútbol para la vida .
