The Central Culture and Recreation Park "Shevchenko" - ( Ukrainian Парк культури та відпочинку ім Т. Г. Шевченка. ) - named after the Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko (from the 1790s to 1925 "Potemkin Garden" - Russian Потёмкинский сад ). Along with Lasar Hloba Park , it is one of the two major city parks in the Ukrainian city of Dnipro .
General information
The park has an area of 36 hectares (including the monastery island ) and is divided into a coastal part and an island part.
- The coastal part includes a summer theater, the student palace of the National University of Dnipro (formerly Potemkin Palace) and some playgrounds.
- The island part ( monastery island ) is home to (among other things) a freshwater aquarium , a zoo , some water sports clubs and various other attractions. In honor of the namesake, one of the largest Taras Shevchenko monuments in Ukraine is located on the west side . There is a beach on the south side .
