Die Schiene (original spelling SCHIENE) is a railway magazine published from 1982 to 2008. The publisher was the railway journalist and former railway worker Joachim Seyferth, who was born in 1956 . From 1983 to 2006 the track appeared six times a year. The 1982 and 2007 years comprised four issues, the 2008 year two issues. The place of publication was Wiesbaden.
Journalistic concept
The publication, advertised as “another railway magazine ” , opposed the closure of branch lines and advocated the expansion of rail traffic and local public transport , emphasizing the environmental friendliness of these modes of transport. From 1982 to 1985 its subtitle was “Forum for Active Transport Policy” and from 1986 to 2008 “Railway - Transport Policy - Travel Culture”.
With its programmatic claim, the rail was the mouthpiece of the traffic-political citizens' initiatives that arose in the 1980s as part of the environmental movement and the new social movements , including passenger associations such as Pro Bahn and IGEB as well as the ecologically oriented Verkehrsclub Deutschland (VCD).
One of the focal points of the Schiene booklet was the headings "Route reports" and "Initiative reports", which served the supraregional exchange of information between groups and individuals involved in rail and transport policy.
The alternative journalistic orientation in contrast to existing specialist and hobby magazines was u. a. underlined by design elements such as the landscape format 18 x 26 cm as well as a layout and black-and-white photographs that were essentially unchanged throughout the entire publication period.
Event series
The rail was the initiator of the transport policy conference " Horber Rail Days ", which has been held annually in Horb am Neckar since 1983 .
Award
