Transport system on a ship lift

A ship lift , not to be confused with a ship lift , is a device used to lift ships out of the water. It is to be regarded as a full replacement for a dry or floating dock or slipway . Smaller lifts are used as stevedocks .

construction

A ship lift consists of a platform that is lowered under water and moved vertically by means of cable winches attached to land . There is usually a transport system on the lift, on which the ship is then pulled ashore and moved to its repair area on a rail system running across the ship. This facility allows several ships to be put ashore one after the other with the ship lift. The largest system was installed in 1996 at the Stralsund shipyard. It has a lifting capacity of around 24,000 tons.

Maschinenfabrik Bröhl in Brohl-Lützing is a leading manufacturer of ship lifts .
